"It's a _________...... "Wait... what did you say????"

The reason I am a little late in getting this blog written is explained in the picture below.

This is obviously a very busy time for our business and every computer I own is being used to design Christmas Cards or order pictures. We actually made our last order yesterday so I am now able to tell you about a night that I will never forget and can't wait to share with my child someday...Any how, back to the party.

We wanted to do something fun for our families to find out with us. I wanted to find out what Emily was going to have based off my mom's reaction. So Emily had an idea to have both of our mothers open a gift and inside the gift would either be blue or pink shoes. Here is a picture of the shoes before we opened them.

Here is a picture of the invitation Emily had made for the party.

So came the night of the party and Emily had everything ready with that special touch that she has. Here are a few pictures of some of the decorations, food and cupcakes she had made. Notice the beautiful pink and blue hydrangeas on the table she had done.

After about an hour of visiting with everyone it was finally time to find out that Emily was going to have a boy....or that's what myself and many others at the party were thinking. All because of our last visit to the Doctor where we had an ultrasound that looked like Baby Burton was going to be a boy... Here, take a look for yourself...

So we all gathered around and there stood my mom, Lynda, and Emily's mother, Judy each holding a wrapped gift with either a blue or pink shoe in it. After a short countdown the race was on to open the gift and finally find out what we were having.

To see the video of our parents opening the shoes and everyone's reaction click this youtube link below...It is hilarious to see everyone's reaction and excitement. You will have to watch it a few times to really see each person's reaction and shock.

As you can see from the video there was a lot of shocked people to find out Baby Burton was going to be a GIRL. None more shocked I think than myself. I thought for the longest time that Emily was going to have a girl but the weeks leading up to the party I started to really lean toward her having a boy. The final straw for me to think Baby Burton was going to be a boy was driving into the Doctor's parking lot when that Brad Paisley song "If he's anything like me" came on. The song is about him finding out and having a son. The song literally started as we were pulling into the parking lot. Just goes to show that God has some sense of humor...lol.

The other funny part about the video, is my first reaction, because I am color blind. All I saw was my mom freaking out and waving a shoe around. It took me a second to realize that was a pink shoe she was waving around.

Here is a picture of Emily and I right after we found out...

Many of you know my obsession with In-N-out burger. In fact when Emily and I were back home in California for my brother's wedding where we found out Emily was pregnant (if you don't know that story, go back and read our first post on this blog.) I had 4 Double Double's in 6 days. So my sister surprised me with the gift below. I'm pretty sure whenever I have to dress her she is going to be wearing this!!!

As the amazing night came to an end we wanted to get a picture with everyone who thought it was going to be a boy.

And  those who thought it was going to be a girl.

Our blog wouldn't be complete with out a message from Houston.

Dinner Battles

Emily has been blessed not to have been sick thus far in her pregnancy, but one thing that she has battled with is any type of food sounding good to eat. Each day when she comes home for lunch I am at the house waiting for her phone call to let me know what she wants so I can have it ready when she gets here. She seems to have a small window of when she can eat without feeling sick. Today like most days was sweet tomato basil soup. I now keep a minimum of 3 on hand at all times:)
Lunch really hasn't been that bad for her as far as picking something that sounds good. Dinner on the other hand has been a challenge! I always have the ingredients to make at least 3 different things each night and give her the option of what sounds the best. Tonight's options were pork chops, chicken caesar salad (the dressing I make usually has a egg in it but I haven't been putting one in it since she is pregnant and it is still really good) or a chicken breast. She threw a huge curve ball at me tonight and requested that I fry the pork chop. I thought she was joking with me because Emily is not a big fan of fried food but apparently this baby is...HA.

So I set off for the kitchen thinking this could be the turn in the pregnancy I have been waiting for. When I can go back to making whatever I want for dinner cause I know she will like it, just like it was before she was pregnant. I was actually pretty excited as I started prepping everything for dinner because I have never made or even had a fried pork chop. Not a dinner staple growing up in Southern California...lol. Once dinner was ready and plated she sat down at the table and asked me to get her a glass of milk. Before I could get back from the refrigerator she had taken one bite and that was all she could do.

She lovingly looked at me with that sweet face of hers and I knew a trip to Wendy's or Chick fil A was in my future tonight:)

10 fingers and 10 toes

Today we went for our 11 week check up and got to count Baby Burton's toes and fingers. I am still just blown away on how much detail you can see in an ultrasound at just 11 weeks. One thing we noticed right away was the size of Baby Burton's feet. That is one thing Emily and I always joked about long before she was ever pregnant was how big our child's feet would probably be. I wear a size 13 and Emily wears a 10. The other funny thing about today was how much that little baby was moving. Dr. Williams had a tough time getting a clear ultrasound because that baby was dancing like it was at a concert. Dr. Williams said several times about how active this baby was. Aside from my large feet the baby is already a lot like me cause I can't sit still. Before Dr. Williams came in Emily had to ask me several times to just sit down and quit pacing around the room. Here is a picture of the baby from the ultrasound, you can see the blur by the baby's knee and on it's back where it was moving around. This was the most still the baby was the entire time and this is the only good picture we got from this visit.

After the ultrasound Emily had to get some blood work and a flu shot.  Emily has never done well with getting blood taken cause her veins are so hard to find. Luckily they were able to get her vein on the first try.

Most of you know I am obsessed with doing time lapses. The day we got home from California from finding out Emily was pregnant, I setup a camera and have been documenting her progress every few days right now. Here in a few weeks as she starts to show a little more I will start doing a picture a day. Here are a couple pictures showing you the angle and where the camera is. I put a couple pieces of tape on the ground where she puts her toes and to mark where I want the shot. With Emily being such a clean freak, I'm sure it is driving her nuts having to see tape on the ground and a camera mounted on a bench until May.

That is all we have for now....Thanks for checking on us.

We have news...

Hello friends... Emily and I have decided to start a blog to give our friends and family updates on what is going on in our lives since we found out our big news. Some of you might be wondering why I am writing the first post...seems a little weird that a guy would be doing the blogging. Well Emily and I have always done things a little different than most married couples. For example... There are many days I come home from work to find her working around the house on things that the husband generally does. Like blowing off the deck or painting something around the house. And as I write this blog I am also cooking us dinner. She loves to be a busy body fixing things and I love to cook and post pictures of our dog, Houston, on Facebook.

So that is why I have been nominated to keep our friends and loved ones up to date on what is going on with the family.

If you have made it this far in reading our blog, I guess I can go ahead and tell you the story of how we found out that our lives were going to change forever.  We made the trip out to California for my brother's wedding on September 17th, where just about my whole family was staying at my parents house that was made into a compound to accommodate all the people that were in town for the wedding.  I enjoy and want to stay married so I planned a trip to Vegas to give Emily a break from the craziness, that is my family, in the middle of our trip. So the next day Emily and I got in the car and made the 5 hour trip to Vegas for a couple nights of fun by ourselves. The first time I had a thought that Emily might be pregnant was while I was driving to Las Vegas and she slept the entire way. Our first night in Vegas we went to see the Cirque Beetles show but first ate at a really expensive Sushi restaurant where I jokingly made a comment when the bill came that she needed to hurry up and get pregnant cause sushi was too expensive. After the show we hit the blackjack tables where I couldn't lose a hand and she wanted to go back to the room cause she was tired. I seriously think I could have won enough to pay for our child's college that night...lol.

After Vegas, we set off for our 2.5 hour trip to Lake Havasu but not before one last stop at In-N-Out for the 3rd time. Emily usually will only let me have it once or twice on a trip but when she agreed for the third time it was my guess that the baby was making her eating decisions.

When we got to Lake Havasu we went out for a sunset cruise.

The next morning we went out for breakfast and that's when I decided to see if my intuition was correct. So after breakfast my parents had to run a quick errand so I decided to pull into a CVS Pharmancy. Emily looked at me and asked what I was doing? I turned to her and said, "you are pregant and I am going to show you before we go have drinks on the boat all day." So I went in and bought two tests and we headed to my parents house hoping to beat them back. I remember looking at her on the way back to the house and asking her if she realized that our lives were going to change forever, she again shrugged me off and said she wasn't. So when we got back I went outside on the patio and she took the test. A few minutes later she appeared from the door with the biggest look of shock on her face. I can't explain the feeling that I was feeling all at once...excitement, nervousness, happiness, so many emotions that I guess you only feel in that moment. Then my mom and Garry walked in so Emily walked over to my mom and showed her the test. I had taken a picture of the test on my iphone so I walked over to Garry and showed him the picture at the same time. Seconds later you hear the biggest scream coming from my mom's room. It was a moment that I will never forget.

From there the phone calls to our families began, I got on the phone and made an appointment with Dr. Williams for the following Monday, just 4 days from that time. The rest of the trip was amazing and here is our first picture together since we found out that our lives were going to change forever. Had she not taken the test that morning I would be willing to bet there would be something else besides water in that cup :)

On Monday we made our way to New Albany for our appointment. Dr. Williams is many of our friends doctors and I took pictures at his daughters wedding, we really like him! Here is the first picture of our baby from the 5 and a half week mark.

It was a little too early to hear the heartbeat so we went back the next week (6 and a half weeks) to hear the heartbeat. That for me was the coolest thing I have ever done.

The hardest part I have had is not screaming to the world that I am going to be a dad so Emily wanted me to wait until our next doctors appointment to make sure everything was alright
Dr. Williams wanted us to come back the following week and here is the picture from that visit.   I was blown away on how much the baby had grown in just two weeks.  This is the baby at 8 and a half weeks.

All in all Emily has been doing great. She is almost in her 10th week and has just had some nausea and lots of food aversions and is tired all of the time. Her due date is May 24th so we still have a ways to go. Thanks for reading our blog and check back with us soon.
